Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park

(Vietnam travel) - PhongNhaKe Bang is situated in QuangBinh Province, lies on five communes of Bo Trach district and Minh Hoa district (PhucTrach, XuanTrach, Tan Trach, ThuongTrach, Son Trach), in the center of Annamite mountain rage with 85,754 ha area, far from Hanoi capital about 500 km the south and Dong Khoi capital about 50 km the south-west. It shares border with HinNamo Nature Reserve of Laos in the west.

PhongNhaKe Bang is considered to be the largest and oldest tropical karst formed 400 million years during the main geologic period of the earth, bearing the topographical and geologic characteristics. UNESCO recognized PhongNhaKe Bang is World Nature Heritage in 2003 that made Vietnamese in general and QuangBinh in particular felt happy.


The special feature of PhongNhaKe Bang national park has two geographies: karst mountain region and non- karst geomorphology region:
Firstly PhongNhaKe Bang karst mountain region has much valuable information about the Earth's topographical process through diversify periods, from the Ordovician Age - Silurian Age (about 463.9 - 430 million year ago) to the Quaternary Age (1.75 million years ago). It also needs to pay attention to a geological characteristic – the system of underground rivers and grottos in Limestone Mountains.

Secondly the non-karst geomorphologic region has a lot of low mountains covered by floristicmatting. The erosion made a number of abrasion-accumulation terraces along the valleys of the Son and Chay rivers and at the margins of the central limestone massifs. The transition geography includes in a diversity of rock intercalated by Limestone Mountains.
What is more there are a lot of caves and grottos-300 caves and grottos consist of three main systems: Vom caves, PhongNha grottos and Ruc Mon caves. Beside some typical caves such as: PhongNha, Tien Son and Thien Duong grottoes, Toi, En and KheRy caves...
